Access your passion with our online distance-learning courses
We provide distance-learning undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees from the comfort of your own home.
In addition, our short ‘Tasters’ offer the option to sample content from our modules for free, giving you the opportunity to explore a subject at a particular level and in an area that interests you before committing to a degree programme.
For almost 200 years, we have been delivering teaching and research in the Humanities.
We have a firmly established reputation for delivering small group teaching; teaching which enables our lecturers to respond to the needs of every single student. Studying at such an established University, you can expect no less than a truly rewarding experience.

Doctoral College
If you choose to do a Doctoral Degree with us, you’ll be appointed a supervisor who specialises in your proposed area of research and will be part of a much wider community of PhD distance students online. We know that doing a research degree is not just about writing a thesis – there are a whole host of other opportunities that you can make the most of as a research student.
Distance Learning
The University has a long history of delivering taught postgraduate degree programmes on a distance learning basis.
Distance learning offers prospective students greater freedom to pursue a course of study that is better tailored to their particular lifestyle and circumstances.
It offers a flexible learning option to people who cannot be residential. They may be a busy parent bringing up young children or a career professional unable to take time off but eager to undertake professional development.
Our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
Our VLE is the centre of your learning experience online. UWTSD uses Moodle as its VLE platform giving the most user-friendly experience possible. All our modules have been designed for studying at a distance.
You will have access to lectures and lecture notes, written and presented by our academics. The VLE abounds with learning material designed for you, from exercises and quizzes to forums that facilitate discussion and exchange of ideas.
Your reading and further research is also facilitated by the VLE as it is your portal to the wealth of subject-specific resources in UWTSD’s Learning Resources Centre.
Library and Online Learning Resources
UWTSD has an excellent online Humanities library. As a UWTSD student, you can access the libraries in all of our campuses in Lampeter, Carmarthen, Swansea, Cardiff, London and from a distance.
Our expert librarians support our distance learners in finding the right resources for your work and making printed books and articles available to you.
Student Support Service
Our Student Support Services are second to none, with eligible students entitled to a ‘needs assessment’ should they wish to have one.
Guidance and support is also provided to students seeking help to identity an additional learning need.
Our specialist support tutors have expert knowledge and extensive experience of supporting all types of students from diverse backgrounds and with a range of needs.
