About the College
Based at the oldest University in Wales’ our lecturers are not only specialists in their subject area but experts in distance-learning provision. We’ve been delivering distance-learning programmes and modules for about 30 years. So with other universities moving to distance-learning because of the current pandemic, it’s ‘business as usual’ here at UWTSD.
Indeed, we’re simply continuing our delivery of excellent teaching as well as providing a fantastic range of learning and research opportunities for our students, all from a distance.
For a long time, we’ve recognised the advantages that distance learning brings in terms of flexibility and bringing together an international cohort of students.
Since UWTSD Lampeter opened its doors almost 200 years ago, we have been delivering excellent teaching in Humanities subjects. With such a wealth of experience behind us, we know what works. We have a firmly established reputation for delivering small group teaching; teaching which enables our lecturers to respond to the needs of every single student. Studying at such an established University, you can expect no less that a truly rewarding experience.
Our i-Humanities College provides undergraduate degrees in the following:
Masters and MRes Degrees
Here at Lampeter, we focus exclusively on Humanities subjects. This focus allows us to foster a multidisciplinary research environment in the Humanities, as well as offer a wide mix of online extracurricular activities and with teaching expertise that is as established as the Lampeter Campus itself, you’ll be in expert hands, enjoying courses which have been written and developed by the lecturers themselves.
You can choose an MA that builds on existing knowledge or one that allows you to study a new subject, different from your BA degree.
Further, in our teaching of mature students as distance-learners, we recognise that our students often have other commitments and worry about ‘not being able to fit everything in’. Our courses are flexible in that we give you the freedom to have as much or as little interaction as you like: interact 24/7 with other students, discuss issues with other students via the Forums, or simply sit back and enjoy the reading material from the comfort of your own home.
Our MAs and MRes Degrees really do provide you with scope to direct your own studies, whilst our lecturers will help you through the assessments and be on hand throughout.
Unlike the MA degree, the MRes is a research degree that focuses on a lengthy dissertation of 35,000 words. The latter is suitable for those that have a specific area of research they want to write about at length, while the former is suited to those who wish to undertake a taught programme. MRes students complete just two modules and then move onto their dissertation for which they are appointed a supervisor. MA students complete 4 modules over the course of their degree before moving on to a dissertation (10,000 words).
